Wednesday’s Hollywood Card

Race 1 at Hollywood Park today is a Maiden Special Weights race for Cal Bred 2 year old fillies at 4 1/2 furlongs over the Cushion Track. I like Wendoffer in here. Peter Miller does pretty well with 2 year olds winning 18%. He’s a first time starter by Officer out or a Private Terms mare. Steal My Charm is part of the entry and has a shot for a first time starter. She’s got some nice works for a 2 year old filly. I’ll use Warren’s Wild One with these two in a box with her 408 rating for the distance.

The 2nd is a $16,000 Claimer for 3 year old fillies at a mile and one sixteenth over the Cushion Track. My Cee Vee had the lead at the top of the stretch last time out against morning line favorite Queen Holly. That was the first trip around two turns for this daughter of Cee’s Tizzy and she’s eligible to improve off that after a little over a month off. She may have learned to relax a little and if so will be tough in here today. Queen Holly ran a close 4th behind Dances with Tigers who’s in here too. Queen Holly was inside of her last out and had a rougher trip. Vladimir Cerin trades up for Bejarano to ride Queen Holly today and she should be able to beat Dances with Tigers today. That leaves Dances with Tigers for the show spot.

Race 3 is a $40,000 Maiden Claimer for 2 year olds at 4 1/2 furlongs on the main track. Aquicksting drops in from Maiden Special Weights after not showing a whole and gets blinkers today. I think the drop and the experience may be enough to get him to the line first today at a decent price. I’ll use Lightning Diabolo and Chatty Katie with her in here today.

The 4th is a $25,000 Claimer for 4 year old and up fillies and mares at 7 furlongs over the main track. Kimmy’sklassylady moved up nicely last out. She’s had a little rest and is 2nd off the layoff. Kalookan Lessie comes off a little layoff after having run pretty well on the turf last out. She’s 0 for 3 on the synthetic surfaces, but has run against better in each of those outs. I’ll try her in here today. Asian Eyes was a beaten favorite last time out and was claimed. She drops down today and I’ll box her with these two.

The 5th race is an Allowance / Optional Claimer for fillies and mares 3 years old and up which have never won $7,500 other than, or are non-winners of 2, or are in for the $40,000 tag. They’ll go a mile and one sixteenth over the Cushion Track. Silver Swallow was beaten pretty good last time out. Today she’s 2nd off the layoff and will improve significantly today. She’s paired with Sangay who won a little stake race last out against state breds, and stretches out today. The morning line is 5/2, and I’d love to get 5/2 on this pair. I think they’ll be more like 3/5. If that’s the case I may bet Island Hop. Julio Cannani is 30% off this kind of layoff and this one is taking a big drop. I’ll use Two Times Won underneath these in some bets.

Race 6 is a Maiden Special Weights race for Cal bred fillies and mares, 3 years old and up at a mile over the turf course. Isabella’s Crown was fifth in the Maglia Farms Stakes in only her second time out. She finished 2 1/2 lengths back, while two others in here were both beaten double digits. She’s 12/1 on the morning line, and stretches out to a mile today. She’s not particularly well bred for the turf, but I like like the price, and Jack Van Berg is an old favorite from my days at Aksarben and the rest of the Nebraska racing Circuit. June my Love looks tough here, and I’ll use Belleacton, who might find herself alone on the lead.

The 7th at Hollywood Park is an Allowance / Optional Claimer for $80,000 for 3 year old fillies which have never won $7,500 other than, are non-winners of two, or are in for the $80,000 claiming tag. They’ll sprint 6 1/2 furlongs on the main track. Molly Pearson sends out Pure and Simple who’s been running in stakes in Arizona, and won a nice on there going back to January. She makes this condition by gambling the horse with the $80,000 claiming tag. Molly Pearson wins allowance races at 29% and claimers at 17% and I’ll give her a try at 12/1 on the morning line. The two other horses in here who’ve beaten winners are For Sure For Sure, who’s won 3 of 4 lifetime starts, and Casino Kay who get’s blinkers on today. I’ll try These three today, all at nice odds, and against a bunch who’ve just broken their maidens and had big Beyer Figures.

The last race today is a $10,000 claimer for 4 year olds and up at a mile and one sixteenth over the main track. It’s very possible Raphael Bejarano may have a big day today. He’s not aboard all the ones I like today, but he’s on a lot in my top 3 for today. He may be alright on King Palm in here today too. He takes another class drop and can’t go much lower. He likes the Hollywood Park track with a win and 6 in the money performances in nine attempts here. There’s quite a bit of speed in here and this race could easily fall apart with a hot pace on the front end. If so, Norway House moves up and even The Rye Man has a chance.
