Wednesday’s Hollywood Card

Saturday’s Intothebit day at Arapahoe Park went pretty well, athough we didn’t make a lot of money. I started off with a Quarter horse that paid $36.80. He looked like the class and had made twice the money the others had. The pools at Arapahoe aren’t quite what they are at Hollywood Park. I had a little to win at $36.80, but my exacta wheel with a 17/1 shot on top of a 5/2 horse paid $22.00. It’s tough to make money at Arapahoe. We had several trifectas and exactas that just didn’t pay. I know the takeouts are quite high, but it was a little more than that going on in the mutuals there. Anyway it’s back to Hollywood now.

Race 1 today is a $50,000 Maiden Claimer for fillies and mares 3 years old and up at a mile and one sixteenth over the Cushion Track. Gentlemen’s Crown gets blinkers on for the first time today and drops out of Maiden Special Weight company. Ron McAnally wins at 21% putting blinkers on for the first time with a $4.87 ROI, and 20% with blinkers overall. She ran decent in her only try attempt in the maiden claiming ranks and has a shot today. B.A. Homebody gets blinkers as well, and also drops in out Maiden Specials, and gets a five pound apprentice allowance. Dixieland Classic is the morning line favorite but hasn’t run on the Cushion Track since last year, and didn’t seem to be that thrilled with. Her last five starts have been on the grass.

Race 2 is an allowance race for 4 year olds and upwards which have never won $7,500 three times other than Maiden, Claiming, or Starter, or are non-winners of four races lifetime. They’ll go a mile over the Hollywood Park Turf Course. Wing Forward has three wins in five outs lifetime, and comes off a fairly long layoff. His last extended layoff was after moving to California from South America, and she won coming off 180 on the bench. Bobby Frankel’s horse Bleu Intense can also win off a layoff. Frankel wins 32% off a six month or longer layoff. Albertus Maximus tries the turf for the first time, and if he takes to it will be tough in here.

The third is a Maiden Claiming race for a $40,000 tag for two year old fillies at 5 1/2 furlongs over the Cushion Track. Lovely Lolly is 12/1 on the morning line. Trainer David La Croix is 21% with first time starters. This one’s by Tiger Ridge who’s stud fee is up to $80,000, and she gets a seven pound weight allowance for having an apprentice jockey. Stormy Inferno drops into maiden claiming from a poor effort at Maiden Special weights, but trainer Jorge Periban has won 33% making this move, and wins 17% with 2 year olds. Lady Schnapps was beaten by a pretty nice maiden claimer in Makasi. Trainer Sam Semkin wins with 2 year olds at 33%.

Race 4 is a $25,000 claimer for 3 year olds at 5 1/2 furlongs over the Cushion Track. Credibility looked to have a lot of talent winner his first start with an 88 Beyer. They’ll try blinkers and see if that does anything for him. Dan Hendricks win at 22% first time with that one. I always like these horses the Wygod’s breed and keep to race. Tribal Mischief is another Tribal Rule colt he seems to be improving while half brother Credibility has been falling off. I thing Credibility comes back today, and may pay a little better than the morning line odds. Polish Pete just won for $32,000 and runs back for $25,000 today. He may bounce a little exherting himself pretty heavily first time off the layoff to win by a nose. I’ll skip him and use Benchmark Kid with these two in some boxes.

The 5th is a $12,500 Claimer for fillies and mares 3 years old and up which have never won three races at 6 furlongs over the Cushion Track. Chicks Rule has been moving down the maiden claiming ladder steadily since winning for $50,000 and being disqualified. She broke her maiden again for $32,000 two back, and ran a nice 2nd for $25,000 claiming against winners last out. She drops in half again today and doesn’t look like she’ll have much company at the wire with these, after being favored in her last 3 outs. Love Special ought to be a big price today, and if you throw out the last race for $20,000 claiming she fits with these. Warren’s Sassy Cat has a shot at a price as well.

Race 6 is a 6 1/2 furlong $40,000 Maiden Claimer for fillies and mares 3 years old and up on the Cushion Track. Deo Favente drops in from a $70,000 Maiden Claimer. At Hollywood Park that’s essentially a Maiden Special Weights race. She was bumped in that race, and went 3 wide into stretch. The winner and third place horses from that race came back to win again, and Martin Jones trains winners 21% of the time 2nd time out. Crooked Smile was purchased for a $200,000 discount off Distorted Humor’s $300,000 stud fee. She starts for the first time at $40,000 which isn’t too encouraging, but this on may be able to run at a price. Enchanting Moment has one start and one second at the distance, but is the morning line favorite.

The 7th is an Allowance Race for Cal Bred 3 year olds and up which have never won $7,500 other than, or are non-winners of two races at 6 furlongs on the turf. California Flag has the best turf breeding of this bunch and is working very well. His best races have been run on the grass, and he’s well bred for the sprint. He runs well coming off the layoff and he’s 8/1 on the morning line. I like him pretty well today. I’ll use him with PartywithLarryZ who hasn’t tried the turf, but isn’t badly bred for it. I’ll use Dr. Skimming in here with those two.

The 8th is a Maiden Special Weights race for Cal Bred two year olds going 5 1/2 furlongs on the Cushion Track. First time starter Miguel’s Mascot gets Victor Espinoza up today. He has combined with trainer Eric Kruljac to win 30% at the Hollywood meet so far. High Way Sixty Six is another first time starter I can bet off the breeding, and I’ll use The Unusual One with these two.

Good Luck;

Ron
